James Vaughn

Account Executive

Former journalist turned communications strategist, James Vaughn brings a decade of experience in media, public relations and marketing to his role at Line One.

James began his career in newsrooms across Indiana, reporting for outlets like the Evansville Courier and Press, Chalkbeat Indiana and The Shelbyville News. He served as editor of the Daily Journal in Johnson County, where his team earned the Hoosier State Press Association’s Blue Ribbon, naming it Indiana’s best daily newspaper.

He later transitioned to public service, first at Foster Success, a nonprofit supporting young people transitioning out of foster care. James built the organization’s first-ever marketing and communications plan from the ground up. Most recently, as a spokesperson and communications director at Indiana’s Family and Social Services Administration, he led statewide campaigns like On My Way Pre-K and First Steps. Today, James combines his background in storytelling and strategy to help clients connect with target audiences.

An Indianapolis native and first-generation college student, James studied journalism at the University of Southern Indiana. He serves on the board of Horizon House, a nonprofit supporting Indy neighbors facing homelessness. He lives on the city’s west side with his husband and their small zoo of rescues.
